Report from the anti-fascist demonstration in Moscow on January 19, 2011

19 January in Moscow passed the anti-fascist rally and meeting in memory of slain two years ago, lawyer Markelov and Anastasia Baburova. The most conservative estimates were attended from 1000 to 1300 people.

At 19.01 the anti-fascists began to gather near the monument Timiryazev Nikitsky Gate. This area is almost untouched by "new Russian" architecture (not counting the ridiculous monument wedding Alexander Pushkin and Natalia Goncharova in the form of a rotunda with a sort of bronze "visitors"), here one and a half kilometers from the Kremlin, is in late Soviet "Splendor" - a cubic building TASS, closed for repairs in 1981 (and so never open) "Cinema re-film", a beautiful bell tower, the monument itself Timiryazev legacy of Lenin's plan of monumental propaganda »...

Directly behind the monument begins Tver parkway, the longest in Moscow, and to build a tower to demonstrate it can be almost arbitrarily long and completely without interfering with traffic. In this sense, surprisingly, that the initial decision of the officials of the Moscow mayor's office was a ban demonstrations not only in Nikitskaya to the arena (it was first proposed by the Committee January 19 route), but also Tversky boulevard to Pushkin Square. After negotiations, however, permission was granted, but not without bureaucratic bullying: procession authorities have agreed on 200 people, the rally - the 500, although the initial proposal contain realistic figures: 1,000 exhibitors and participants.

Anyway, no provocation by the authorities after the start of the demonstration was no more. On the way to muster the police stopped people going per share (the subway Arbatskaya, in an underground passage through Vozdvizhenka - one from the other side of it on the sidewalk Nikitsky Boulevard), but after the passage of a framework for Nikitskie gate all was quiet, although from the outset it was clear that people are going to not 200, not 500, and much more.

advance had doubts not too short route to demonstrate the Committee has chosen 19 January, but in a 15-degree frost, the route turned out to be optimal. Optimum was short and meeting, he may have ended at 20.40, not 22 th hours, as agreed with the mayor's office.

Unlike shares in 2010 (then march Petrovsky Boulevard, Pipe Square Christmas and Sretensky Boulevard (past the monument to the wife of Comrade Krupsk) at the monument to the author of "Woe from Wit" has been agreed, but held, despite the obstruction by the police and detained more than 70 people), this time clearly dominated by young people from the anarchist, leftist and antifascist groups. What's more afraid of the liberal intelligentsia - the alleged anti-capitalist chants (yes, they have been, but where there were more anti-fascist and protivogosudarstvennyh), an alleged Nazi attack (it was not) or the alleged crackdown by the police (it was not there either) is unclear, but it stands alone noted that the best of its representatives to the demonstration and rally yet arrived. Generally, in terms of ideological tolerance, it was probably the perfect event: anti-fascists, anarchists, socialists, communists (not KPRFnogo, of course, spills, and from different organizations, small red), the Liberals. There were also feminist slogans, which is pretty important, considering that Russian Fascism spill mainly acts as a coarse brute force of male dominance.

on Pushkin Square in Novopushkinsky park (at the site of the destroyed about 40 years ago, the residential quarter) was a car with sound. When a convoy of thousands of with some demonstrators (and with a small but spirited first-grader, sitting on the neck of one of the anarchists) went to the site of the rally, the speakers sounded sounds of famous songs by the group Chumbawamba «Day The Nazi Died», and then other songs "with the meaning of" in Russian, English and German. However, the silent pause was needed only to people who passed through a second metal detector at the entrance to Novopushkinsky Square, managed to gather in front of the podium. Side the scene was posted a screen on which miraculously without breaking the cold beamer projected video: anti-fascist posters by artists of different countries made especially for the Moscow - with the exhibition, held all last week in the Moscow subway cars, the few remaining video frames Stas and Nastya, their photos. Leading the rally, had covered the face with a handkerchief beautiful girl encouraged the audience make candles, warned of the need to disperse after the events in large groups (Nazis could theoretically attack the people who went on one, anyway, last year, such incidents were), and then announced a minute of silence. Subsequently, the two readers with covered faces with scarves male and female voices read a statement by the Committee on January 19 and by the end of their brief reading among those present on the square here and there flickered the lights - it began to light the burner in large lanterns made of rice paper. Filled with hot air lanterns - they were about 50 - flew into the sky (the same principle as a hot-air balloons, hot air balloon) - in memory of people killed Nazis in Russia today.

at this annual memorial event of the Committee on January 19 was completed in 2011. Occur everyday, even 365 days, because anti-fascism can not tolerate the weekend, a social movement is something only when it becomes a daily practice. And it's not so much a matter of faith and belief, as question the actions based on them.
